Post 29: Keep your ego in check this holiday season!

Start small. Start by not gossiping about someone. Start by not judging someone. Start by holding back those thoughts that may arise tearing another person apart in your head. Commit to looking past the seemingly “bad” in another person to the radiant light within that person, and notice the difficulty in doing this as the ego wants to simply judge and blame and hate. Give the gift of seeing someone in their truest nature as Spirit…give the gift of unconditional love, love with absolutely NO conditions. Challenge yourself to live as Jesus...

Post 28: Jesus could be just one bad day away…you only have to be open to his presence.

I love when a 3-minute conversation with my 5 year old daughter brings me back to a state of awakening. I was asked on the car ride home last night by my little girl if I knew that Jesus died for us on purpose. I have my own take on this, so as I was explaining how Jesus showed us through his torturous death that if he can forgive the people nailing him to the cross then we should be able to forgive anyone for anything, suddenly and without warning...

Post 27: Undo the ego and stop life from ankle-biting the hell out of you!

Is life ankle biting the hell out of you?  Great! What I have found having two tiny pups in the house is that ankle biting is bittersweet.  Sure, it aggravates the hell out of you, but that’s just it!  It potentially takes the hell out of you. Life brings up fears that we need to heal in life.  So all of these little ego aggravations are actually opportunities to really look at what is going on and let some stuff go. If you are dancing the two step trying to get out...

Post 26: Awaken faster with a better attitude

This will give new meaning to "attitude adjustment" as you realize the effect your attitude has on your own spiritual awakening. This post is courtesy of my brilliant and wonderful Dad, Curt Graf. The following is in his own words: In A Course in Miracles, the emphasis is placed on listening to the Voice for God which is the Holy Spirit. As the course says, He has the perfect plan for us to awaken, to become perfectly happy and profoundly peaceful and to recognize heaven on earth. The course calls this plan, God's...

Post 25: Finding inner peace amongst the chaos of the mind.

Recently I have encountered a situation in which I find myself moving between judgment and hope. As I judge, I get angry and I come up with all sorts of ways to force-fix the problem. I find myself waking up at 3am-unpeaceful, anxious, stressed, and spend the next day tired, weak with nothing left to give. When I get on my yoga mat I calm.  As I move through the practice I remember my center. I may release this emotional stress through tears and this gives me deep peace. Now I find...

Post 24: Escape your ego through the practice of yoga.

Some of us don’t have the time, resources, or freedom to go on a hero’s journey such as Elizabeth Gilbert went on and then wrote about in her amazing book, Eat, Pray, Love. But, we all have a means of positive escape from our ego mind that is just as real, as life-changing, and as necessary as a hero’s journey can be for the spiritual seeker. This means is yoga and guided meditation.  Yoga is a journey, a means of escape from the ego mind, without having to go anywhere. Simply get on...

Post 23: Give the ultimate spiritual gift!

When I found myself in the same room as Oprah Winfrey - okay so “room” was Phillips Arena in Atlanta with ten thousand plus other fans - I just had to cry. I was suddenly heighteningly attuned to the magnitude of her presence. I was immediately and viscerally aware of the impact her being has had on so many, but also...

Post 22: The journey is this very moment, don’t miss out!

The journey is now! Okay, so no one really smokes anymore, but one thing I miss about smoking is how it forced me to take a much needed break and contemplate some things. So here’s what I want you to do. Take yourself a much needed “smoke” break. Load up that pretend pipe with the following and toke on it for a bit. Forget the destination, enjoy the journey. The journey is … this very moment. The ultimate realization is that there is no journey, there is no destination...

Post 21: Self-study is the new Friday night fun time!

Yogic self-study (not to be confused with a selfie) is a rockin' good time!!! After years of searching in all the wrong places for happiness and fulfillment that lasts, little did I know that I would eventually find a spiritual teaching that would lead me much further than simply finding self-esteem or a way out of depression.  I would find what it means to be awake, enlightened, a concept that I had heard of but never knew was possible to fully understand. One thing that A Course in Miracles (ACIM) brought to...

Post 20: Step 1 to Awakening

The first step to awakening is simply understanding what it is that we are trying to awaken from and that is this ego thought system that we are immersed in. This idea isn’t always easy to believe.  It’s like telling someone they have microscopic organisms all over their body.  It seems unbelievable at first, until you pull out the microscope and see them all moving around. Remember, this thought system has been constructed over many years.  There are seemingly endless layers to it that need to be peeled back slowly for us...
