Post #86: Experience the Spiritual Light of the Self 21-Minute Guided Meditation

Years ago I was told that Savasana, corpse pose,  was the most important pose in yoga. Huh? My 20-year old self wondered how simply laying down and relaxing was most important. My 40+ year old self now understands completely.

The older we get the more opportunities we have had to make mistakes and carry regrets or guilt for those mistakes. We have kids, jobs, and responsibilities that can be overwhelming and pull us out of our peaceful place. We reach a point in which we feel that most of our opportunities and possibilities are in the past and we are navigating the downhill trajectory. So it becomes increasingly difficult to lay still and “let go” without the regretful past or dim future keeping us from that peaceful space.

This is why I love the practice of yoga. As we navigate the aging process, this practice challenges us to do life right. If you can’t lay still, “let go” and just “be” with yourself, then take a closer look at what’s holding you back. Yoga allows us to non-judgmentally take a closer look at our selves and make change that our hearts and souls yearn for. After consistent practice we find ourselves taking things off of our plates so that we have time to smell the roses and just breathe. We find ourselves forgiving ourselves and others and moving on from dwelling over the past. We find deep faith which shows us that we never have to prove anything to God (or our mothers or our friends) to make Him/Her love us. He loves us unconditionally!

So each time we lay down in Savasana, we find that we go deeper and deeper into relaxation. We let go, let go, let go, until we experience what yoga calls the spiritual light of the self. This is the ultimate goal of yoga and the more you reach this state, the more you find your life transforming for the better.

So find 21 minutes to dedicate to this guided meditation practice. Create a sacred space to light a candle, lay down in savasana, and get excited about what it means to experience the spiritual light of your own self!

Remember, you are a force for good in the world. The more consistent you get with these practices the more your life will become guided, sacred, and filled with meaning. You cannot help but then extend deep peace, joy, and contentment to your loved ones, friends, and everyone you meet. The world could use more of this, so let’s get you in the best space to make it happen.
