Post #69: Yoga is like a mini-vacay for body, mind, & soul

Do you enjoy planning your next vacation? I sure do! But have you noticed that most vacations are spent running after kids or running around trying to take in as many sites as quickly as possible?

Have you ever heard yourself mutter, “I need a vacation from my vacation”?

Unless you’re 20 with no kids and heading to the Bahamas, vacations usually don’t leave us feeling refreshed and recharged.

Yoga is like a mini-vacay without having to leave your mat. 

It gives us something we don’t normally get with vacation, a chance to check in with ourselves and shift our focus inward. We stop staring at our phone, emails, and obsessing over all the to-dos we have left to finish. We slow down and ask ourselves, how am I doing today? How am I feeling today? What can I let go of today? What can I quit obsessing over for the next 90 minutes, half hour, whatever.

We take a deep breath. And another. And another. There is an entire energetic shift that takes place. Our brain waves change. Our shoulders sink 2 inches. The frown between our eyebrows relax a bit.

Most of us are juggling so much. We are paying bills, ordering groceries, and buying that cool new tooth whitener online, all while making business decisions, taking kids to and from activities, and planning our next kids birthday party, vacation, or school fundraiser.

We have all become renaissance men and women in our own right, but we all need an effing break.

So roll out your yoga mat, light a candle, and make time for your practice that will make you feel like you had an actual vacation.

Get to your local yoga studio or practice the video I’ve included today. Just get practicing! This video is for more advanced practitioners. It’s only 6 minutes long, so if you are considered a more practiced yogi, then give it your full attention and allow the practice to quiet your mind and take you to the only place you truly need to go…within. 

Remember, you are a force for good in the world. The more consistent you get with these practices the more your life will become guided, sacred, and filled with meaning. You cannot help but then extend deep peace, joy, and contentment to your loved ones, friends, and everyone you meet. The world could use more of this, so let’s get you in the best space to make it happen.
